John Costello, Superintendent

As we enter another school year, I would like to thank you for taking the time to browse our website. As you can see, we have a lot of great things happening across our district. The community support is second to none, and it is evident with all the updates to our buildings and athletic complex.

COVID-19 has changed our world, but it hasn't changed the passion our staff has toward educating our students. While things will never be "normal" again, our staff has done a great job changing the way they teach to meet the needs of our students. This will continue to be an evolving process during the 2021-2022 school year and we will make the necessary changes/improvements to make this the best school year ever.

I continue to be blessed to be part of such a great school district and community. The parental support is awesome and our students are the best. Out students exhibit  a tremendous amount of "Wildcat Pride" and it is evident in their support of each other.

I encourage you to stop by the school at any time or make an appointment to see all the great changes and improvements we have done to our facilities over the past years. Also, please check out our district Facebook page and help spread the word on all the great things happening!! Thanks again for your support!!

Cynthia Lacey, Middle/High School Principal

Hello Wildcats-welcome to Southwestern’s website.  My name is Cindy Lacey and I am in my 11th year with the district, currently serving as the MS/HS principal.  My family consists of my husband Mike and our two amazing kids-Vaughan, who has graduated and Hannah, a 12th grader for the ‘21-’22 school year.  We also have two chocolate labs and a mini Australian Shephard that help fill the house.

I received my undergraduate degree from Luther College in Decorah, IA and my graduate degree from Loras College in Dubuque, IA.  I have spent most of my life in the midwest except for two years spent in the Phoenix, AZ area where my daughter was born.  We’ve decided that the midwest is where we want to be as a family!

There are so many things to do in this area, some that I enjoy are running, biking, boating, and hiking.  I have completed 4 Tough Mudders, two triathlons, and a marathon.  My latest outdoor love is stand up paddle boarding (SUPing).  I enjoy just about any athletic activity that comes my way.  I enjoy reading and scrapbooking when unable to get outdoors.

Please reach out to laceyc@swsd.k12.wi.us if you ever need information about Southwestern Wisconsin School District.  Remember it’s always a GREAT day to be a Wildcat!

Hello Wildcat Families,  Welcome to the 2022/2023 school year.  I am excited to start year 2 as the Elementary Principal working with our amazing staff to provide our students the best education possible. We have many exciting events happening throughout the year so please watch for items to come home with your child or events to be posted on our Facebook page. I look forward to seeing many of you at them.

A little bit about myself, my wife and I have 2 rambunctious little boys (Henry, 4 and Liam, 2) and will be welcoming our third child very soon. I was born and raised in Hazel Green on a family farm near Kieler. I attended Southwestern and graduated in 2007. I attended The University of Wisconsin- Platteville for both my bachelors and masters degrees. I am very thankful to serve the people of the district I have called home my entire life.

I serve our district with pride because our school is becoming an example that our neighbors are striving to follow. Thank you for working with us to complete the many needed upgrades and additions over the past 7 years. Stop by anytime to take a short tour of our building. I give lots of them to people passing through and everyone is amazed at the work we have done.

As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns by using the email below. I will do my best to answer your questions or direct you to the person who can.

Always CHOOSE KIND,

Joe Vogt

Resources For
The New School
Report Cards

In October 2012, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) issued a School Report Card for your child’s school and for every public school in Wisconsin. The School Report Card will help parents understand how their child’s school is doing and where it can improve. The new report cards will help all Wisconsin public schools get a better picture of how well they help children learn, advance to the next grade, and graduate ready for college and career. Our goal is to help every student in a Wisconsin school succeed, graduate, and be ready to pursue further education and a career.

A parent guide to the new report card in pdf format can be downloaded here.

Information on the School Report Card may be found at this Department of Public Instruction link.
